Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations | Hearing Tests

During your examination you will be seated in a large soundproof room and will be tested using a series of low & high frequency words to determine your ability to understand verbiage within a conversation. We will also give you several words to repeat. Using a variety of clinical tools, the results will help us determine your percentage of hearing loss, your ability to understand speech and how hearing aids will improve your ability to hear. Should a hearing loss be present, proper follow-up will be recommended. Hearing tests typically take about 30 minutes.

Earmolds and Pilot Earmolds

An earmold is a device worn inserted into the ear for sound conduction to improve sound transmission to the eardrums or ear protection from excessive or loud noise or water. Earmolds help with user comfort and efficiency of hearing aids. Sound conduction is an essential feature to diminishfe edback paths in hearing aids and assure better intelligibility in noisy-environment communication. Since, earmolds (and their tubes) can stiffen with age or become discolored, they may need to be replaced eventually. At Accurate Hearing Aid Centers we provide Earmolds for various uses including earmolds for swimmers, musicians and also pilots.

Hearing Aid Dispensing & Fitting

Aid fitting
At the hearing aid fitting, you will receive the hearing aids you selected. They are programmed based on a prescription that is specific to each person’s hearing loss. The hearing professional may make adjustments after you try the hearing aids to make sure the settings and fit are ideal for you. Hearing Aids have changed considerably in the last few years due to consumer demands. Many people are using wireless earpieces for their cell phones and earbuds for MP3 players. The hearing aid industry recognizes this change and has started making hearing aids that do not look like traditional hearing aids. Many are so tiny that others will never recognize you are wearing one. The experience of wearing hearing aids has also improved greatly through better technology and research. There are many different kinds of hearing aids that Beach Cities Hearing Aid Center uses and we have the experience to find the right one for your hearing needs.

Hearing Aid Repair

Since hearing aids are mechanical and electronic devices, they are subject to dirt, dust, moisture, earwax, debris, and abuse from handling on a daily basis. At some point, they will require maintenance and quite possibly, some form of repair. Hearing aids can be repaired, regardless of whether you need to fix the microphone, broken wires, the receiver, or perhaps a bad transistor. Most of the time, we can fix the hearing aid in the office at the time of your visit. You will know when a hearing aid is not functioning correctly after you get used to your device(s), based on its performance during usage at optimum levels. A working hearing aid is not the same as an effective hearing aid. Even though a hearing aid may be working, it doesn’t mean that it is meeting your expectations. If your hearing aid is working, but you have noticed a change it it’s performance, it may be indicative of a possible change in your hearing loss. Therefore, it is recommended that if you have noticed any depletion of the hearing aids performance you come visit us to re-evaluate your hearing and inspect your hearing devices.

Industrial Hearing Testing

Workers in certain occupations are required to receive regular hearing tests due to the risk of hearing loss that can be caused by excessive noise in their workplace. These hearing screenings can be completed in less than 30 minutes, and comply with the standards set by OSHA. In-Office Services We encourage ongoing cleaning and maintenance after your hearing aid purchase to ensure you receive optimum performance and benefit from your hearing aid(s). We encourage all our patients to come in for regular hearing aid check-ups and cleaning. Make sure to charge and check the battery. Batteries that are properly charged will make a noise (a squeal) when cupped in your hand or after it has been inserted in your ear, when you cup your hand over the hearing aid it will also make a noise. Inspect each device for dirt, wax, and debris. Dirt, wax, and moisture are the saboteurs of hearing aids. If there is wax, dirt, or debris in or over the microphone, it could prevent your hearing aid from working at its best. The cerumen (ear wax) should be removed weekly using Peroxide or a prepared ear wash. Repairs, Maintenance, Cleanings, and Warranties come with all brands of hearing aids. We offer in-office repairs when possible on most makes/models.

Musician Ear Plugs & Monitors

Musicians practice and perform in a variety of different settings. They are exposed to high levels of sound, sometimes for long periods, which may put them at risk for permanent hearing damage. Musician’s earplugs are custom-made devices that help to limit the sound exposure from instruments, while still providing a rich musical experience for the performer or audience.
